Autumn DIY Ideas with Flowers

Who says a bouquet has to be all about flowers? Here, we’re letting pine cones take centre stage and filling the gaps with small flowers and sprigs of greenery. The result is a charming floral decoration with plenty of autumnal flair. A crisp autumn walk, pockets full of pine cones and a DIY project waiting for you at home. Autumn cosiness at its best!

You’ll need:

• Pine cones in different sizes
• Cut flowers
• Sprigs of greenery
• Floral wire
• Secateurs or scissors
• A vase

How to make it:

1. Give the pine cones stems. Wrap floral wire around the bottom of each pine cone, leaving a length of wire to act as a stem.
2. Build your pine cone bouquet. Gather the pine cones into a bouquet and bend the wires until you have a shape you like. Mix different sizes and heights for a more natural look. 
3. Time for the flowers. Cut the flowers and sprigs of greenery into short stems.
4. Add some colour. Gently tuck the flowers into the gaps between the pine cones and add sprigs of greenery wherever needed.
5. The finishing touch. Place your arrangement in a vase, adjust a few pine cones and flowers if needed and voilà, your autumn decoration is ready!

You decide how big or small you want your autumn decoration to be and which colours to use. We’ve chosen carnations, but roses, chrysanthemums or other flowers will work just as well. Flowers with slightly fuller blooms are a great choice, as they can be tucked between the pine cones to fill the gaps beautifully. Mix different colours or stick to a single shade. There are no rules here!

Tip: This floral decoration is best enjoyed in the moment, as the flowers aren’t standing in water. Want it to last a little longer? Use soaked floral foam as a base and arrange both the flowers and pine cones in it.

You’ll need:

• A straight-sided vase or glass jar
• Cinnamon sticks
• An elastic band
• A decorative ribbon
• Cut flowers
• Scissors

How to make it:

1. Place the elastic band around the vase. Choose an elastic band that fits snugly around the middle of the vase.
2. Add the cinnamon sticks. Slide the cinnamon sticks one by one underneath the elastic band until they cover the entire vase. Place them close together.
3. Hide the elastic band. Tie a decorative ribbon around the vase to cover the elastic band and finish with a bow.
4. Fill the vase with water. Add water and make sure the cinnamon sticks are still sitting neatly in place.
5. Time for the flowers. Trim the flowers to the right length and arrange them in the vase.
